Shop Tootsies: Houston, Dallas, Atlanta

The Toosties story began in 1975, when iconic founder Mickey Rosmarin (given name Michael) opened his first location in the Galleria area after having a previous store called Honest Threads in Montrose.  Tootsies, named after Al Jolson’s 1920’s hit “Toot Toot Tootsie Goodbye” became an instant hit, if only because Rosmarin became  known as “Houston’s shrewdest, hippest retailer”. As Houston became more affluent and sophisticated,  so too did Tootsies.  Rosemarin moved into a larger space in the ever-growing Highland Village area and brought hand-picked European designers to the city.  Paris designer Andrew Gn credits Rosemarin for his start.  While Rosemarin was determined to bring the worlds brightest designers to Houston, he championed local talent in Houston and Dallas, like Houston designer Elaine Turner.  After opening stores in Dallas and Atlanta, Rosemarin expanded again in 2011 to it’s current 35,000-square-foot dazzling behemoth in Houston’s West Ave.  It’s here he solidified his place in Houston’s history among home- grown department stores, wholly committing to the local philanthropic and social community.  Mickey Rosmarin passed away unexpectedly in 2016 leaving a hole in Houston retail, and fashion designers around the globe.
